This era of globalization, acceleration, and continuous technological innovation together with the collapse of barriers,
annihilation of distances, and progressive shortening of products’ and services’ life cycles, brought to a radical change in the competitive context, leaving the ground to a new era that can be defined as the “intelligence-based economy”.
In this context what we call “creativity”, i.e. the ability to spread new ideas and generate discontinuity, is becoming the
critical success factor. One the of the most critical factors for the development of a territorial system is therefore the ability to attract highly qualified intellectual capital or, in other words, those individuals who are able to generate quantum leaps in their fields of activity. Nowadays technologies, firms and their investments follow these rare skilled resources around the World, and localize according to where the
creative class chooses to settle. On their side, creative people settle where the living conditions are more compatible with their peculiar life style: most often the cities.
In order to suggest what Italian cities shall do in order to better attract the creative class, we have developed a worldwide study capable to investigate the matter and identify the critical factors cities should leverage on in order to develop a positive attraction towards the creative class.
The seminar will present the results of a research study carried out by Ambrosetti for ANCE, Associazione Nazionale Costruttori Edili.
