"
IS MARRIAGE ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY?"It's become my opinion that marriage is a function better suited
to societies that aren't as prone to change as ours is. Today, people's lives change a lot more than they did 50, 75, 100 years ago. We're mobile, we change careers, and have the ability to connect with other people like never before in history. I think that, given how everything else in our lives change, it's ridiculous to expect marriage to last as well. For those people who can make it last, they deserve the utmost respect.
And having children makes an immense difference. People should stay together, swallow their differences, and make their children's lives as stable as possible. People need to put the "me" thing aside when they have to be responsible for people they chose to bring into the world.
It seems too, that we aren't as
religious as we once were. Even official religious stances are
changing to suit the changing social climate. Which is fine, as the 'church' is an organism that needs to adapt in order to survive.

Marriages break up because people have an excessive estimate of their own right to be happy. I thought marriage was about giving yourself to someone, to love them, care for them, and support them, but I've come to find out that it's really about pleasing yourself, and if your partner doesn't give you what you want, well then that's it! I'm out of here!
