Bluetooth is a latest trend as a channel for M-Commerce transaction. This paper explores the possibilities of latest trends in Bluetooth and its feasibility with smart card transaction. One of the most serious security threats to any computing device is unauthorized use. User authentication is the first line of defense against this threat. Smart card authentication is perhaps the best-known example of a proof-by-possession mechanism. Smart cards are credit card-size, plastic cards that hold an embedded computer chip containing an operating system, programs, and data. They can be imprinted with a photo, a magnetic strip, or other information, for dual use as a physical identification badge. Smart cards can help to improve the security of a device and also provide additional security services. Many organizational security infrastructures incorporate smart cards. Authentication mechanisms described in this paper are referred to as the smart multimedia card and Bluetooth smart card mechanisms.
