GenerationAny's The Monthly Rant (Jan. 2007)
Happy New Year!!!!
Oh, screw that. I believe the best we can all
hope for is that things on all fronts, but especially the political- world and American fronts- improve over the preceeding year. And, to open this months rant we'll open with, you got it....
-Politics:
Hmm. Let's see. What tasty tidbits were there in the new years first month? Oh, I know. How about these....
News Item- From Friday, Jan. 5, 2007 ....Missing gun found. ....Reportedly stolen from an unlocked vehicle. ....Mount Carmel. ....One of two handguns reported stolen in the burough over the past two weeks was found by it's owner, who reportedly misplaced it in another of his vehicles.
Hey! This is America, aint it? Whatever happened to "A handgun in every pot," or whatever?.... -Enough of the real world, why don't you come with me into the world of my imagination instead.
He walked into the empty field behind his grandparents house and made his way to the smallish patch of woods at the fields farthest end.
Jimmy had been there, he knew it. He could sense his friends nearness though it was obvious he'd been gone for some time. Yea, Jimmy had been there alright, and as usual he'd left something in their
secret place; that space between the thick roots running form the giant elm, away from it at its base. The space and whatever, for that week, would be hidden within it would be covered with leaves he knew, and as he walked between the first few trees and moved toward the hidden place he felt his heart beat quicken and his mouth go dry.
What would it be? Something wonderful, or something awful? One week Jimmy had left a small bag of grape taffy wrapped in clear crinkly plastic. Another week he'd left a half rotted squirell.
He reached the tree at last and squatted before it. Slowly, carefully, he began peeling away the first layer of leaves, orange, red, dark-brown, shining in the autumn sun. Then finally he reached the bottom layer and looking under it, into the secret space, he saw. He saw what Jimmy had left....
Anyway dear reader, that's it for now. That's all I got. What did Jimmy leave our unnamed hero. Who can say.... Until next month. I'm out.
