It is often seen that auctions or sales as for that sake depend upon the popularity or the exposure it gets. Online auctions hence profit much as they have a huge exposure. There are lots of websites, which have huge turnovers from their auctions only because they do a lot of publicity & hence gather a lot of crowd. People prefer to buy at auctions owing to the reasonable price at which they can buy and the simplicity of the transaction.
The general working of an online auction is very simple. You approach an online portal or portals with your product. The company puts on your product on their website at an auction & then people start noticing you. You start getting bidders for your product, & when your expectations meet the bidder’s budget, the bidding stops and a deal takes place. As per the terms and conditions of the portal, you have to pay them their fees/ commission in terms of percentage or a fixed amount. This is the mainframe picture of the business.
The more the popularity of the web portal, the more is the traffic attracted towards it & hence, more is the money derived from the bid. Hence, more people prefer submitting their product to an auction portal rather than setting up their own portal. Every company has its own way of putting up a product for auction. Some prefer to put it up on their portal itself while others advertise about it on partner sites also. They post reviews and comments about the product so that visitors can know more about the product before bidding for it. A visitor wants a 360 degree view of the product. The more the bidders, the more is the price & hence more is the profits derived from the product. The profits are shared with the company by the product owner as per the company’s policy. Many a times, the owner gets much more profit than his expectations. Many companies provide guidelines about increasing the face value of the product & about putting it on in an attractive way. They have the professional knowledge of the know-hows of customer satisfaction. Auction sites not only earn commissions but also earn on advertisements made on their sites by other websites. Thus it is has multiple ways of earning. Many a times, the owner posts his product on multiple auction sites. In this case, every site tries to compete in selling the product & hence satisfying the client. They are always looking for good & repeat business. It is always good to sell products at auctions rather than selling them on retail since people are not attracted much to retail or flat rates.
