When did celebutants and popstars become the new J.R. Ewing? I read an
article today that started out with the purchase of
shelter animals (adult pit bull mix) by Paris Hilton and Britney Spears. Currently PETA
is protesting this. Now I''m confused. Wasn''t it just last week that
PETA was pitching a fit that "Brit-Brit" bought a dog from a
PET store?
So if some animal-lover who happens to be famous wants to obtain a pet,
they can''t go to a pet store to buy the animal because it "supports
breeders" and folks the public is supposed to view as the REAL animal
lovers are against that. They also can''t rescue any hard-to-place
animals from an animal shelter because that supports the shelters
that euthanize unwanted animals. Oh, but they can''t go to a "no-kill"
shelter , either, because recent statistics say those harm
animals, too! So, what is a
celebrity to do, America? What will it take
to satisfy America''s love of hating? Can these poor, beleaguered girls
move "animal-lovers" everywhere out of their personal "celebrity zoo"
cages so they can try to put together some kind of normal life? This is
a valid question since our obsession with celebrities can cause those
under our microscope visibly real damage. We require of our
entertainment figures a level of behavior and degree of scrutiny that
used to be reserved for our
politicians. These days the politicians can
carouse and spend money (OUR money) as they choose. Why? We now, as a
nation, are too easily distracted by our plastic beauties and personal
vices. Does anybody hear a fiddle playing? Somebody better check
on Nero!
