Who Is Hatching Conspiracy?
The primary need therefore is to identify a process
that translates controversies into consensus amidst all uncertainties and conspiracies being formulated by the reactionaries. Wise people learn from history and to date we have not been so wise when it comes to learning both from our mistakes and the mistakes that people in situations similar to ours have committed around the world. Black clouds of uncertainties and suspicions have overcastted the political horizons of Nepal making it absolutely impossible for common people to perceive what is going to happen in the immediate future. In a situation when the members of a formerly dominant ruling group, who have been dumped into a corner after the people’s movement, are trying to reap benefit by causing unrest in the country; the acts of present leadership have become blessings for those in disguise. It is no more a controversial issue among political parties, civil societies and all others concerned that Constituent Assembly (CA) is the one and only means to ensure lasting peace in Nepal and every effort of the government and public sector has to be geared towards it. But unfortunately, there have been clear indications that the present government, political party leaderships including the Maoists are either not serious in getting the CA elections held in time or are being influenced by external elements that are against the verdict of the popular movement. Reactionaries are being blessed with a perfect environment to hatch a
conspiracy. More alarming is the apprehensive involvement of some of the leaders from ruling parties to originate, if not to nurture, a conspiracy in camouflage.
Knowingly or unknowingly, the main agenda of the country for lasting peace is being sidelined and minor issues that have no significance in supporting the peace process are loudly spelt out. It seems that peace is still an object hanging far above the sky > The American and Indian ambassadors have become active and the prime minister is reported to be busy with meeting them in getting their consents. One can easily understand the concerns of US and India towards the inclusion of Maoists in the government, however, the core question is: Is the government really committed towards the peace processes? The political market is full with rumours that the government has been advised by the army, US and India not to include Maoists in the government as they have lost the mass-based popularity. If we look at the past we''re worried, but if we look forward there are encouraging signs. The political arena in the country seems to be prepared for a radical change – a total paradigm shift from the existing situation in the form of a polarisation of political forces in pro or anti republic pitch. The demand of the present day is the polarization of Narahari Acharya-led faction in NC, Bamdev Gautam-led faction in UML, Pradeep Giri-led faction in NC (D) and Prachanda led CPN (M) with similar forces in one cluster, and the others who are advocating space for the king in another group. Time will tell which group will represent the true voices of the present generation and safeguard the inherited spirit of the people’s movement. As we delay to form such coherent knot, more conspiracies will be hatched. It is a ‘now or never’ situation.
