OBJECTIVE: To study the effects of losartan on BP and mycofibrosis in rats model METHODS: 16 rats with
spontaneous hypertension
were randomly divided into active group and control group The rats in active group were treated with daily 20 mg losartan Another 10 rats were recruited as healthy control After 6 weeks, all the rats were killed, and all the left ventricle muscle weight (LVW) were measured to calculate the LVW/BW; the interstitial collagen volume fraction (CVF) and the ratio of perivascular collgen area to percircle length (PVCA/PCL) were calculated by an automatic analyzing system RESULTS: After treatment, the BP decreased to normal level with a stable heart rate in animals of the active group, and their LVW/BW, CVF, and PVCA/PCL were obviously decreased CONCLUSION: The BP in rats with
spontaneous hypertension can effectively decreased by treatment with losartan for 6 weeks, at same time their myocardial fibrosis and left vertricle hypertrophy can also be regressed partially but no effect on heart rate
