AIM: To observe the protective effect of
Xiao Tang Capsule (Xtc) on the kidney of the diabetic rats. METHODS: Unilatetal
nephrectomy and tetraoxypyrimidine injection were employed to establish the diabetic rat models, which were randomly divided into control group
, Captopril group <2.5 mg/(kg·d)>, high <3.81 g/(kg·d)>, middle <2.54 g/(kg·d)> and low <1.27 g/(kg·d)> dose groups of XTC. After intragastric administration for 4 weeks, we determined their effects on the weight of kidney, renal function and the excretion quantity of urinary albumin. RESULTS: The weight of kidney to body weight, urea nitrogen, creatinine and the excretion quantity of urinary albumin in the high, middle and low dose XTC groups were significantly lower than those in the control group (P<0.05). However, compared with Captopri group, there was no significant difference. CONCLUSION: XTC can inhibit the hypertrophy of kidney, reduce the excretion of urine protein, and result in improving the kidney function.
