Drug
abuse does not just occur in dark alleys of dangerous neighborhoods, but At schools, in suburban neighborhoods and by people you may never suspect. Not restricted exclusively to illegal drugs, drug abuse can occur by taking more than the recommend dosages of prescribed medications or taking legal medication in an attempt to get ‘HIGH’ rather than for their designed purpose. Prescribed pain killers make up a very large portion of drug abuse and the addiction can be crippling.
The usual intoxicants which are hitherto considered as drugs are: COCAINE, LSD, HEROIN, MDMA, MARIJUANA, OXYCONTIN, STEROIDS, METHAMPHETAMINE, and INHALANTS, The way these drugs are consumed varies. Each drug has to be consumed in a particular way, e.g. cocaine is to be inhaled, marijuana is to be smoked, steroids to be injected etc. etc. Drug abuse and addiction to nicotine, alcohol and illegal substances, the world over, have cost billions or even trillions of dollars every year and year after year. Added to this, millions and millions of people die because of this. The consumption of tobacco and alcohol is so very common amongst all kinds of people, it has, in fact, become a way of life for many. Drug abuse is present in almost all the countries of the world and each country has its own way and pattern of drug abuse. In the third World countries, where illiteracy, poverty, unemployment or underemployment prevails, there, the people tend to consume more alcohol and other drug consumption, only to forget their pains and disappointments. In the developed and rich countries, underage drinking and drug abuse is on the high, due to easy availability of drugs and freedom extended by their busy and rich parents. The human brain is unnecessarily being taxed to take up more unnatural tasks, and as a result, when the brain just can’t manage, it has to naturally give up. When it usually gives up, any part of the brain might be hampered. The usual risks involved through drug abuse and other unwanted addictions, can be, different to different age groups. It is categorized as follows:
Adults & parents: When the adults in a family are victims of drug abuse or some similar addiction, their behavior is not normal and due to this, their spouses and their children are the first soft targets. In some cases, the babies in the womb are also affected and they might be born impaired and with certain challenges. They are either born premature or underweight. The intellectual level of the child will surely be affected. Elders, even at their work places, their performances might not be up to expectations and they might even end up losing their jobs. The result will be chaotic & tensions will start surfacing. Adolescents: These children, who have such problems, cannot perform well with their academics, which might even result in dropping out of school and college. It will surely hamper their involvement in sports and other health related extra curricular activities. Many a times, they have to face unplanned pregnancies, they involve themselves in violent activities, dangerous driving habits, high risk adventure sports etc. Usually their body resistance levels go down and they suffer from many kinds of infectious diseases.
Sports persons: When the drug abuse problem occurs with sports persons, just to enhance their performance levels, at various competitions, they are not only cheating themselves, but they are trying to hoodwink the officials too. If the officials come to know about the consumption of the banned drug, they will be stripped of all their medals and further, they are banned from all sports, for life. Added to all these, they have to take a lot of criticism & humiliation from one and all. To prevent all this and create a clean world, free from all these drugs etc. all Governments should in unison work for it. The punishment for drug producers and drug peddlers should be so high, that they should really feel the pinch of it.
Drug Test & equipment: There are many kinds of tests to determine the intake of drugs, alcohol, LSD, marijuana, etc.to ensure the exact amount of drug consumption in each individual. However, the best drug test ever to be conducted can only be carried out by a caring mother or father, who can sense the odd behavior of their child and immediately take some kind of corrective step, to completely root out such bad habits.
