The notable efforts of cooperation between Italy and the People's Republic of China in the health sectors will have an important
chance in The Year of Italy in China 2006 to highlight the achievements of this bilateral cooperation, and to focus attention towards the status of health management in Italy and the companies and professionals that operate in the sector.
The project of the Italian Ministry of Health for The Year of Italy in China 2006 is structured in conferences with the aim of showing the results achieved in the sectors of pharmacological research, medical research, and modernization of traditional Chinese
medicine. These conferences will be the central pillar of an initiative that will give companies in the health sector the chance to show their products and innovations to Chinese scientists, researchers and health operators, with the aim of creating contacts and improving the presence in China of Italian businesses and organizations in this field.
The Ministry of Health will organize:
- A conference about health research, directly organized by the Ministry of Health, focusing on the results of the
collaboration between medical research centers in Italy and China.
- A conference about pharmaceutical research organized under the auspices of the Ministry of Health focusing on the results achieved by Italian and Chinese companies in the development of a new medicine derived from vegetable products used in traditional Chinese medicine to cure malaria in the Third World.
- The commencement during 2006 in the University of Rome La Sapienza and in The University of Milan of two Masters degree programs in Traditional Chinese Medicine. The Masters programs have been designed in collaboration with Chinese authorities and will include the participation of senior Chinese teachers and a training period in China to improve students' knowledge with the aim of a correct integration of this medicine with Western medicine. The results of this collaboration will find in the Year of Italy in China 2006 an important momentum to verify and spread the results of this collaboration, focused on the creation and provision of a wide range of therapies.
- A project of exchange of information between the Italian and Chinese ministries of health which includes the exchange of experiences achieved in both health systems, with particular attention to provide a deep knowledge of the Italian health system, trying to discover if there is a possibility to apply the Italian experience to the rural health care systems of China.
- The Week of Italian Health in China — to take place in two different locations, probably Beijing and Shanghai, at the same time as a series of events that show importance of Italian health companies and their technologies.
