HEART
ATTACK - SELF HELP Many people are alone when they suffer a heart attack. The person whose heart is beating improperly and who begins to feel faint, has only 10 seconds left before losing consciousness. However, these victims can help themselves by coughing repeatedly and very vigorously. A
deep breath should be taken before each cough. The
cough must be deep and prolonged, as and when producing sputum from deep inside the chest. A breath and cough must be repeated every two seconds without let up until help arrives or until the heart is felt to be beating normally again. Deep breaths get oxygen into lungs and coughing movements squeeze the heart and keep the blood circulating. The squeezing pressure on the heart also helps it regain normal rhythm. In this way the heart attack victims can get a
hospital in time. Doctors suggests when a person has
chest pain (on the left side, like a feeling of heaviness), it is imperative to administer some first aid on spot before shifting him to a hospital as soon as possible. He should be made to chew on an aspirin tablet (like a peppermint). This thins the blood and prevents platelets from clogging the
arteries in the heart. Basically what happens is a clot over cholesterol deposition in the arteries. This clotting needs to be stemmed. Do not show any panic and make the
victim comfortable. The victim should never be made to exert and lifted physically.
