Posted to the Web: Friday, February 09, 2007 ABUJA—The House of Representatives yesterday threatened to stop consideration of over N31billion budget proposal for Ekiti State , if the state’s sole
administrator, Brigadier-General Tunde Olurin (rtd) did not re-instate the 16
Council Chairmen he sacked on Tuesday.Olurin had on Tuesday, announced the dissolution of all the 16
local councils of the state, sparking a legal action from the council bosses, who filed a suit against the
government through the Attorney general, Mr. Gboyega Oluwole.The House in its resolution threatened to “stop further consideration of the Ekiti state supplementary appropriation, until our resolutions are complied with, or alternatively the “sole administrator should be summoned to appear on Tuesday next week” to brief the House on why he took the decision.The motion threatening sanctions against the sole administrator, was raised by Mr. Abubakar Momoh(PDP Esako/Edo) and seconded by Nnaemeka Celestine Ughanze(PDP Oyi/Anambra).The contents of the motion stated that “The House notes the recent dissolution of the local government council in the state without reference to the National Assembly.
“Aware that the local government council in Ekiti state are guaranteed under the state local government law to run a three-year tenure expiring in April 2007.That the “House agrees the dissolution of local government councils in the state is supposed to be effected by the governor with the prior approval of the state’ Assembly. And is “conscious of the emergency rule in the state which confers the functions of the state Assembly on the National Assembly”
