of a nation. It is the foundation for national will and character manifesting in the values of national cultural tradition. National spirit plays an important role in the orientation of the existence and development of a nation. It is its faith and aspired aim. The national spirit of the Vietnamese is the national consciousness, which has been created during the whole historical process and expressed in the values of the cultural tradition. It is the very spirit that has created the will and strength for the Vietnamese to sustain and develop the country during the thousand-year history. In other words, national spirit is a crystallization and sublimation of the traditional values of a nation, among which the two most important are patriotism and the spirit of national independence. Those two values have a very strong attachment to each other to create the essence of the national spirit. Patriotism is a foundation to build the spirit of national independence, which, in its turn, fortifies patriotism.Active integration into the world and intensive engagement in dialogue with other nations worldwide in order to acquire their quintessence to enrich the national cultural identity is an effective way to achieve that aim.
