This is an investigation of the attitudes and debates surrounding free
trade with the United States on the Canadian side
of the border during the period of 1985 to 2000. The author examines the reasons for
free trade and the events that led up to the entry into agreements as well as the hopes,
fears and results of free trade between the two countries with focus on Canadian fears.
