Aristotle and Epicurus

Book Summary by: AcaDemon

This paper approaches the ethical philosophies of Aristotle and Epicurus with respect to their differing approaches to the
concept of " pleasure". Where Aristotle's theory of pleasure is supremely rational and foundationed in human experience, Epicurus' theory, in its applicability to otherwise inexplicable human behaviour, may serve to explain human conceptions of pleasure from an entirely different - almost irrational - and yet equally valid avenue. Our conclusion takes the path of moderation; acknowledging the significance of both perspectives, yet taking the middle road between the two ethical models.
