Follow this guide step by step: For those of you who have been waiting to jailbreak your iPod Touch, here are the steps:
1. Update iPod Touch 4G, 3G to the latest iOS 4.1 firmware (download link at bottom).
2. Download Limera1n (link at bottom).
3. Connect your device to your Computer via USB cable and Launch limera1n. Click on ‘Make it ra1n’.
4. Wait for iTouch to enter into recovery mode.
Next follow the instructions given by Limera1n.
5. Hold HOME + POWER buttons.
6. Next release POWER button.
7. Wait for your device to enter into DFU mode. You should be seeing the message ‘in DFU mode…wait’.
8. At this point you will see the limera1n logo on your iPod Touch screen. Let limera1n finish the jailbreak process by injecting the boot level exploit into your device.
9. You can now go ahead and install Cydia by tapping on the limera1n icon on your Homescreen.
10. Restart your iPod Touch.
That’s it. You are done. Your iTouch is now jailbroken for life! Only a hardware release can patch this bootrom level exploit, not any firmware release.
