We
all see and hear the motivational stories of triumphant victories and
challenges that people have overcome. We all awe and marvel at the
complete and utter perseverance that these individuals have. It's almost
like they were in some sense "super human" in a way. They overcome
outstanding odds and stand proud at the end of their journey. These
people come from all walks of life, different religions, countries,
monetary levels etc. The one thing that brings them all together in a
similar fashion is this.
Are you in it to win it?
Whats stopping you from reaching your goals?
What
makes these people so unique? Are they from another planet, or born
with something most of us don't have? Are they some form of genetic
mutation with a built in drive to succeed? No, honestly they are just
like you and I. We all have the innate ability to transform ourselves
into winners. OK maybe some of us are born with a better drive system
than others, but all in all it is a level playing field when it comes to
it. So why aren't we more adept to striving to succeed no matter the
cost? Well, I can't speak for those people 30 years or more back, but I
can say this. In the past 30 years Technology has come a long way and we
have become wayyyyy to dependent on it.
They say that a habit can be formed or changed within a month and a half
or so. So think about how many bad habits have been established in the
last 30 years because of technology. Some of you may be thinking "well
what about the positives technology has brought us, like becoming more
efficient and faster at many things". Yes I cannot deny technology has
brought the world closer together in many ways, but it has also
separated us. Kids play video games and watch television more and more.
Adults have laptops, cell phones and many other gadgets that keep them
engaged in their activities. With the advent of all this technology, now
we can live through it and don't really worry about our fitness. Obesity rates
have sky rocketed and many health related diseases have soared because
of it. Now I am not bashing technology, I love it and because of it we
have many useful resources when it comes to fitness. But the reality of
the matter is all that useful information, tips, and products is USELESS
if we don't apply what we learn.
Don't think about it, Be about it!
lights, camera, Action
The
application of knowledge to action is the key to success and we all
know it. Bruce lee one said "If you spend too much time thinking about a
thing, you'll never get it done". Way to many times we think and plan
but never take action. I know this because I've done this many times in
the past. It is the fear of starting something new that ultimately slows
us down from starting, or simply we never start it at all. This is why
when decide to workout we are ready for it, we get the membership and
the clothes, and we get all fired up. Then when the time comes we go
pretty hard for a day or 2 and then the thought of doing this for months
and years on end strikes fear in us. Yes fear, it's not the laziness
inside of us that speaks, it is the fear of uncertainty. The fear that
if we do put in hard work, and we don't see any results we will have
wasted our time. It is easier to sit on a couch
then get up and go running, it's easier to take it easy then to work
your body in the gym. We need to put away our laptops and fancy phones,
we need to set a plan of action and just go for it.
I could go on and on with reasons why we quit but I think you get the
idea on what you need to do to get things done. First create a plan of
action, set goals that are rather easy and reward
yourself when you accomplish them. Get a poster board and create the
vision of you that you want to see in the future. Last but not least
turn negative comments into your fuel for success. Use negative
motivators to your advantage and you my friend will be successful.
