"Grow up mommy..." , my 18 year old son mock-cried at me when I asked him to sleep early on 31st Dec'10 so that he can go to temple on early morning of 1st Jan'11, the first day of the Gregorian calender. My practical half brain was prepared for this answer but my emotional half was just trying its luck.
My husband, a happy go lucky kinda man, loves to join social gatherings and have a lavish dinner on the eve of new year. I like to go temple on early morning of new year and present my big wish list for the whole year in front of God. My brother in law goes to Mussourie to enjoy snowfall on every new year. Each one of us do some or the other special thing to bid adieu to the previous year and to welcome the new year and make sure to enjoy oneself to the fullest.
But, has anyone of us ever thought of others or about making others happy?
Has anyone thought of giving their maid, a day holiday on new year? Or, about giving their watchman, a sweater which he can wear in the chilly nights of January? Or, has anyone praised the mess worker in office who serves food for the entire year? Or, do anyone of us give tip to the guard who takes care of our cars in the parking area for the whole year?
I am sure, majority of us will say "NO". We don't hesitate even for a single moment in spending thousands of money on new year celebration in restaurants, Movie Theatres, DJ, fireworks but, we do think atleast ten times before giving a small gift to the servants who serve us for the complete year round.
On this new year, just make 3 persons happy other than your own self and I am sure, the year will bring happiness and prosperity multiplied to million times, to your lives.
Wish you all a very Happy New Year 2011!
