Dreams
Introduction
Dreams have a powerful impact in one’s life. It has often been criticized that dreams will not
happen in reality. On can go to the extent of terming dream “an extension/advancement of Visualization”. Visualization has been encouraged and recommended as a strong motivation technique. Then why all the hype and fuss over dreams? There are ground realities that make people to discourage dreams. They should not be ignored at any cost.
Dreaming During Duty
While discussing dreams it is appropriate to cite the story of a
businessman. He was supposed to travel abroad for a prosperous venture. Every arrangement was made. While he was about to leave his
watchman stopped him by saying that he dreamt that his boss would die in aircraft collusion if he leaves by on that day. The friends and
relatives of the businessman did not heed to the watchman’s words. The businessman however cancelled his trip immediately. His relatives grew furious at the watchman and termed the individual’s act foolish. There was a strange coincidence on that day night. The aircraft in which the businessman was supposed to travel met with an accident. The pilot and the passengers were burnt to ashes. On hearing this news the friends and relatives of the businessman praised the watchman for his timely action and also felt sorry for cursing and scolding him. Accordingly the businessman complimented the watchman for saving his life and gave some valuable presents. Towards the end he also declared that he was terminating the watchman from that day onwards. His act is neither unscrupulous nor illogical or the one lacking faith. It has a simple catch. The watchman has been dismissed for dreaming during the duty hours.
What are the Main reasons for discouraging it?
This is one of the main factors that people keep in mind when it comes to dreaming. Whether dreams happen or do not happen is only secondary and solely affects the concerned person alone. But if one were to dream during work hours or study or during other productive labor that requires deep concentration it is not only harmful to the concerned person but also other who share his work or employ his services or connected with it either directly or indirectly. Nevertheless dreams are inevitable even for an organization or a nation. The time and place of its occurrence occupies more significance. Our honorable president DR.A.P.J.Abdul Kalam has advised citizens to dream of achieving greater heights and fresher pastures in life. The words of this learned scholar should not be misinterpreted in any case.
The difficulties
Dreaming is an involuntary process over which the human mind exercises little or no control. Since our mind has been referred to monkeys it is next only to impossible to decide or direct dreams. If one were to control dreams the story of an
emperor will prove that the human mind does not have any ability to control dreams or any kind of thoughts (which relate to mind). The emperor who was about 50 years old was quite unhappy with his baldhead. What more can be expected in the age! However he was very apprehensive and repeatedly pestered his
physician to help him in this regard. The physician prescribed a tonic to him and asked him to consume regularly. He added that doing so would restore his lost hair. The emperor’s joy knew no bounds. The physician laid down a condition as prerequisite for taking the medication. He instructed the emperor not to think about mango while consuming the medicine, for which the later gladly agreed. When he was about to take the medicine the emperor was remained of the physician’s instructions and hence resolved not to think of monkey. He understood the problem only afterwards. The emperor’s mindset is not our concern. The objective is to know the nature of human mind.
In short
If one were to preach advise and schedule dreams the results will be something like the emperor’s story. Our mind is so wavering that it is not possible to restrict anything (especially when it comes to thought or the issues associated with it.) Hence it is not practically possible to decide when to dream and when not to dream. Dreaming could have adverse effects especially in executing works that deserve lots of attention. If a student dreams during class or if a soldier dreams during war the results would not only be disastrous to them but to persons dependent on them.
Conclusion.
By and large it has been understood that dreams are both enjoyable and interesting. Above all factors there should be something constant in one’s mind when it comes to dreams. They should not b carried away by dreams and use them only as a motivator /inducers. If only I was dreaming of writing about dreams this literal output would not have happened. They were possible because of the subsequent actions (thinking and putting down the thoughts in this paper).
