BIOGRAPHY OF BILL GATES, THE RICHEST MAN OF THE WORLD
William Henry Gates III was born in Seattle, Washington, in
1955. He studied at Harvard University (1973-1977). With
his friend Paul Allen, he formed a small team which created
software programs that they sold to companies.
When still in Harvard, Gates developed a version of the
language program BASIC for the first microcomputer- MITS
Altair.
In 1976 founded in Alburquerque, New Mexico, his own
computer software company, Microsoft Corporation. His
business consisted on elaborating software programs adapted
to the needs of new microcomputers and offering them to the
manufacturing companies for a cheaper price than the one
they would have spent in creating the same software.
In 1979 Microsoft moved his main offices to Seattle. In 1980
they agreed with IBM to deliver an operating system adapted
to their new personal computers, MS-DOS, which was going to
be installed in all their computers by 1981.
In 1983 Gates made a revolution in personal computing with
the introduction of the mouse and a new graphics system to
subsitute MS-DOS (Windows).
When, in 1986, Microsoft went onto the Stock Market, their
shares sky rocketed and Bill Gates became the richest man
of the United States.
Microsoft got benefits of US$36,84 billions by the end of
2004 tax year in June, and employs over 55000 people in 85
countries.
Microsoft's mission, with Bill Gates at its front, is to
grow continously, to improve software technology and turn
their products more accessible for all their clients.
