The most common words uttered by couples today are conference, deadline, meeting, urgent, I’ll-be-home-late-tonight, etc.
In the case of schoolchildren and college youth, it is homework, assignments, projects, submissions, examinations, grades, etc.
However, the moment you bring a dog or a cat home, life at home turns topsy-turvy. The living room carpet will have muddy pugmarks all over it. Your best cushions go flat and lose shape. Someone’s slipper is missing and is found days later under a sofa, half-chewed up and rendered useless. Then there are other
little additional responsibilities like bathing the pet,
regular visits to the vet, monitoring diet and health, house-training the pet, etc, over and above your regular schedule.
After all this, you ask a dog-lover about their little ‘Sparky, ‘Lassie’ or ‘Roger’ and what you get is a wide grin and a long, pleasurable saga of the dog’s smallest antic. When we arrive home from a long day’s work, a dog will rush and greet you, wagging his tail all the while, as if no one else exists in the world. Its eyes shine with unconditional love and adoration. Moreover, who does not want to be adored?
The simple task of grooming/combing a dog can give both you and the pet, not only a sense of bonding, but also a feeling of peace. It must be the most effective and probably the least expensive way to de-stress from your day-to-day pressures. The dog will follow you around from room to room, so you are never lonely. Bring home a pet sometime. Who knows, you may discover a new world – a world full of laughter and relaxation!
