WHAT SHOULD BE DONE?
Five men who were involved in an argument came to Buddha and asked Him about the right path to
Truth.
One
person said,”
People related to me say this.So this is my path.”
The other says,”I have been told this way.So,this is the only path.”Similarly,each one put forward their views.And they asked,”Swami please tell us which is the right path.”
Lord Buddha asked,”Well, Did any one tell you that this is the right path towards God.Is this true?”And the conversation continued.
Person:Yes.
Buddha:Have you ever seen God?
Person:No Lord.
Buddha:Your father?
Person :No Lord.
Buddha:Your ancestors?
Person :No Lord.
Buddha:No body of them has seen God.Isn’t it?
Person :No Lord.
Buddha:What about your Acharyas?Have they seen God?
Person :No.
He put the same questions in front of others and received the same answers.
Then Buddha said
“Once a man in a village came to me crying very badly.He said,”Oh,I love her very much.”He was crying very badly.The village people enquired him .But the young man kept telling that he loved her very much.
The village people asked him,“Who is the girl you love?”
He said,”I do not know.”
Village people:Where does she live?
He: I do not know.But I love her very very much.
Village people:How will she look like?
He:I do not know.But I love her very deeply.”
After this Buddha turned to a young man and asked them,”What do you think about this person.”
He answered,”He is a fool.”
He asked the rest of the people and they gave the same answer.They added ,”To cry for a lady whom he has neither seen nor know about is utter foolishness.He doesn’t even know whether such a person survives or not.He is a fool.”
“You are all like him only.When you people fight for the person whom neither you nor your ancestors have seen,are you all not fools?”
They thought a while and then surrendered and asked Him what to do.
Buddha asked them whether their father had told them about God getting angry ,or have they been preached that God is bad,for which the answer was no.
He then said,”Just think!nstead of trying to cut the opponent’s neck,try to be pure and good.In that way you can go closer to the Lord.”
Buddha says:
“Become pure.Become good.Be pure.Love everybody.”
