This is an important issue in the theory of biographic writing.From a new understanding of the truthfulness of biographic
works and from the examples of fiction and imagination in famous biographic works such as "The Biography of Liu Bang","Emperor Gaozu of the Han Dynasty","The Biography of Xiang Yu","King of State Chu" and other biographic stories in "Historical Records by Sima Qian",the famous ancient Chinese historian and biography writer and works by modern Chinese biography writers like Ma Ke,Guo Baolin and Hu Xin,the writer of this thesis puts forward his idea that writers of biographic literature can use reasonable imagination, exaggeration or even fiction in biography writing on the basis of real events of the persons involved,citing remarks of literature critics and based on the writer's own experience in biography writing,analysing the differences between imagination,exaggeration and fiction in novels and those in biographic literature,and pointing out what is proper and reasonable imagination,exaggeration and fiction in biographic writing.
