Rules for the Pronunciation of Chinese Characters with Falling Tone and Their Application in the Te

Article Summary by: TsingHua

Original Author: Journal of Shanxi College for Youth Administrators
The effects of language rhyme, tone and rhythm are especially emphasized in ancient Chinese poetry. However, if read in modern
standard Chinese, the poetry will not rhyme and harmonize. Due to the change of history, this will destroy the effects of ancient poetry objectively. In ancient times, the pronunciation system of official language, which was based on the rhyme of Central Plains language, has been replaced by the pronunciation of modern standard Chinese language now. The level tone, rising tone, falling tone and entering tone in the rhyme of Central Plains language has now turned into high and level tone, rising tone, falling-rising tone and falling tone of modern standard Chinese. Among them, the characters with falling tone have the greatest influence on the reading and understanding of ancient poetry and should be especially noticed by teachers of Chinese. In order to inherit, hand down and develop splendid Chinese culture, this kind of phenomenon should be carefully explained in the teaching activity of Chinese.
