There are many either historical
book besides the
Holy Bible and it is not the only greatest and best of all
books. It takes a great work to trace its history but scholars. The Holy Bible was written by about forty men and it was composed for about sixteen hundred years from the fact that Moses began it about the year 1500 B. C. and John finished it about the year 90 A. D. The Bible got its name from Greek word which means “the little book”. As time goes on, it was called “the book”, and then “the holy book”, and finally “the Holy Book of Books”. It is not easy to get Bible then as it is today because Bible was written on stone, clay, etc, before the art of printing on paper was discovered. Bible was formally written in three languages which is Hebrew and Aramaic for Old Testament and Greek for New Testament. The books of Bible was compiled together by Jews about 400 B. C. The books of New Testament was also gathered together after the death of Jesus Christ and this take hundreds of years to get them arranged. The first translation of Bible were made into Greek and Latin. Important source of document was the Septuagint, made at Alexandria, Egypt, about 270 B. C. to 150 B. C. Their was no chapter and verse, the descriptive headings of chapters and the presence of italics, or slopping letters in the text in the original Bible. Cardinal Hugo or Archbishop Langton made the division of Bible into chapters in thirteenth century. About 1551, division of Bible into verses was made by Robert Stephen. They are imperfect and sometimes change the meaning of some words. The presence of Italics was because in may cases it was necessary to introduce words to make clear a meaning which could not be translated easily. The Holy Bible comprises of two parts which is Old Testament and New Testament. The Old Testament has thirty-nine books in it and it contains God’s account of the creation, history of Jewish people and God’s dealing with them and things that is going to happen in New Testament. The men that write Old Testament left off work on it about 400 B. C. The Old Testament is divided into four which are:- 1. Pentateuch which
consists of Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy. 2. The historical books which consists of Joshua, Judges, Ruth, 1 Samuel, 2 samuel, 1 Kings, 2 Kings, 1 Chronicles, 2 Chronicles, Ezra, Nehemiah and Esther. 3. The poetic books which consists of Job, the Psalms, Proverbs, Ecclesiastics and the Song of Solomon. 4. The prophetical books which consists of Isaiah, Jeremiah, Lamentation, Ezekiel, Daniel, Hosea, Joel, Amos, Obadiah, Jonah, Micah, Nahum, Habakkuk, Zephaniah, Haggai, Zechariah and Malachi. The New Testament has twenty-seven books. It begins with the birth of Jesus and cover a period of about seventy-five years down to the time when the faith Christianity was being extended. The New Testament is divided into four which are:- 1. The historical books which consists of Matthew, Mark, Luke, John and the Acts of the Apostles. 2. The Pauline epistles which consists of Romans, Corinthians, Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, Thessalonians, Timothy, Titus, Philemon and Hebrews. 3. The general epistles which consists of James, Peter, John and Jude. 4. The prophetical book which consists of Revelation.
