It''s not just the other studios that are always on the lookout for the next Harry Potter franchise. With the wizard winding down, the Hogwarts home team also has a slot to fill.
The next great film fantasy author may be a lot closer to home than London, England. With the second-to-last Harry Potter film about to open, Warner Bros. has snapped up the rights to Terry Brooks'' vast series of Shannara books.
The 14-book series is set a thousand years in Earth''s future, in a time where magic rules a post-apocalyptic planet. The Shanarra are a family of half elven, half human adventurers who attempt to save this world.
So far, Brooks has resisted all attempts to bring the books to the screen. But according to Daily Variety, it was producer Dan Farah and his partner Ryan Colucci who were finally able to persuade the Illnois native, who now divides his time between Hawaii and the Pacific Northwest.
Farah and Colucci are said to have chosen then second book in the series, The Elfstones of Shanarra, as the best potential one to develop as the first of what they and Warner Bros. hope will be multiple films.
