INTRODUCTION:
It is difficult for English foreign language learners, especially
adults to speak the target language fluently and appropriately.
Since the 1980's,there has been an increasing number of studies concerning
classroom interaction in order to provide effective guidance in developing competent speakers of English.
The main focus was on those aspects underlying teacher questioning, his effective explanation ,his effective feedback, how should he treat errors, and how should he motivate his students,...So that he can more effectively help them to develop their abilities to communicate in the target language.
1-TEACHER QUESTIONING:
A-Factual Questions:
Are questions used to ask for factual information and they begin with :What, when, who and where.
For example:What was the previous lesson about? Here, the student by his response is going to give factual information. In other words ,he is going to summarize the previous lesson.
B-Reasoning Questions:
Are questions that require a reason or reasons. They start with: Why or how.
For example:Why the writer used the simple present tense in this story? Here ,the student is going to give the reason of the use of that tense in the sentence.
2-TEACHER EFFECTIVE FEEDBACK :
Teacher feedback on responses given by students is another very important element in classroom interaction. It is the feedback thatteachers make evaluation of and give comments on students'performance. This can beseen from the fact that classroom exchanges typically consist of 3 parts:An initiation from the teacher,a response from the student, followed by a feedback from the teacher.Teacher feedback is so much part of the classroom interaction routine that ,when it is absent after a student response, students know that there must be something wrong or unsatisfactory about the response. So, they are likely to feel frustrated if the teacher keeps withholding feedback.
Examples:
a-A teacher has asked her student to conduct an interview. She points at the words (teaching experience)on the blackboard and asks students what question they have asked in relation to that?
