He was a champion of nonviolent protest in the campaign for civil rights.He led a campaign against the bus company becausw at that time black people had to give up their seats to whites.Black people did not use the buses for 318 days.In 1956 the supreme court declared segragation of buses to be againstthe constitution.King was then asked to lead the Southern Christian leadership comperence.It''s goal was to win equality for black people without violence.In 1963 he led a march to washington dc where he made a famous speech.It is known by one of its phrases,"I Have A Dream".Then in 1964 King won the novel peace prize for his nonviolent pursuit of justice.On april 4,1968 he was shot in Memphis,Tennessee.He was buried in atlanta and since 1986 the third monday in january has been a national holiday in his honor.
