women put babies on hold for careers

London: When it comes to choosing between babies and a career, women with a college degree are increasingly choosing the
latter.
Researchers conducting the study have found that more and more women with a university education are putting a hold on having kids to pursue a career.
The study found that while there were three women graduates in five who were raising a family by the time they turned 30 in the mid-1970s, today, there just over one in five female graduates doing so.
“Changing participation in education can only explain one half of the decline,” the Daily Mail quoted the researchers, as saying. “What has driven fertility is not just that more women are now pursuing a higher level of education, but better educated women have very different work and family trajectories than before. The generations that saw the biggest increases in childlessness also saw big increases in full-time employment rates, suggesting that some women were choosing careers and not families,” they added.
This changing trend, the researchers state, also means that an increasing number of educated women are now childless. The researchers noted that one in ten women now aged 50 does not have children, and that one in five women in their 30s and 40s don’t have kids.
