The Global Cause of Suffering: Lack of Holistic Approach as Leo Tolstoy Conveys in War and Peace-I
What is the cause of the suffering? It is a call for holistic approach, which the War and Peace, Leo Tolstoy’s novel represents
beautifully. We always wish to explore it. However, our ego causes it, as we are not able to surrender to higher and holistic values, God and others. The ego and intellect together seem to play with our creative thinking and scientific feelings. The strangers are the guests, if we know how to welcome them as Martin does. Most of our life seems not taking this risk, to allow others as the guests. Even on earth, we are the guests.
The holistic approach is an integrated approach, in which we creatively make our feelings rich, the scientific way for living life, the Philselfology, as I would like to call it. The science is not an enemy of human civilization, rather, it invites that we all are guests, whom Mother Nature welcomes. The devotion and dedication are the essence of holistic life, in which there is no room for one’s considering others males or females, as it is psychological level of thinking, not the creative thinking. The oneness and unity, which Martin feels with the soldier, the woman, child, old woman and the boy does not reflect any favor for gender. For him all are the guests, in whom the Lord Jesus is present.
This singleness of thought is the surrender of ego. In eastern, particularly the Indian Philosophy of Religion, Metaphysics and Mysticism conveys that surrender of ego is for higher joy, the joy of sense of equality, the opening of the third eye, as Martin goes through transformation, he knows that all are one, as the Lord Jesus and God is making it a way for him. It is the concept of opening of the third eye.
