Article Summary by: mikecahill

They select the finest of labels without regard for price or fit. As long as the name is on it, they have to
have it. Young ladies with parents carrying credit cards galore invade the mall and go from rack to rack. So what if the slacks are snug or show off their body a bit too provacatively. The name is on the label. Who cares if the shorts may be a tad too short. They are in style. We are not speaking about college ladies. The age bracket runs from nine to thirteen.
The pants begin innprice at forty bucks. Sneakers go for a paltry eighty dollars on up. Are they lined with gold? NO! Do they stretch with a child''s growth? Again the answer is negative. So why the big ticket cost then? We have become a label conscious nation. If there is not a famous desgin or label name on the garment, social ostracism is possible. It used to be wearing square clothes was conforming. White shirts and casual dress slacks became the norm.
Long hair was for hippies. Smoking represented a wild type of life no self respecting teen would do. Back then labels were not important. Consideration for what folks made rated higher than how much they could spend on a pair of slacks. Then what happened to us is the question.
Could it be our greed and lust for the finer things has trickled down into our children so deeply they are beyond repair? Has our advertising world become so powerful they dictate us into sometimes financial stress just so our youngsters "look good"? Image is more than self respect. It is what is going on inside the person as well. That is the lesson to instill in our children.
Maybe, hopefully, someday the youth of this country will understand they are being played like puppets by ad men. Perhaps that will happen sooner than later.
