just doing my job

Article Summary by: mikecahill

Original Author: mike cahill
On 9/11/2001 the Twin Towers of New York become a modern day Pearl Harbor. Thousands died or got very ill. Countless
firefighters and policemen worked without regard for their own lives to save everyone they could. Many perished trying to save others. The firefighters who did manage to survive were hailed as heroes. Each one called their fallen comrades the real heroes. As for them, they were just doing their job.
Day in and day out police, firemen, and EMT''s and paramedics respond to calls of every
classification. It may be as simple as a locked door on a car to a fatal accident. Police may have routine traffic stops such as burnt out taillights, or get involved in major crime arrests. They never know what will happen. Too many officers have been shot during such routine stops for no reason, except the suspect had other ideas.
These men and women go to work as scheduled to protect us. And they will say they are just doing their job. Maybe it is time we did our job and thanked them every so often just because it''s the right thing to do. And when they ask for proper recognition in forms of pay or benefits, support them. It is the right thing to do. Who knows maybe someday one of us hearing, "we''re just doing our job."
