A little about your personal life?
I have not always felt love in my country land. Born as the son of an algerian night watch-man, I was raised in tough district in Marseilles. As a devout muslim and the son of an african immigrant, I often endured racism and hostility from local inhabitants during my childhood.
•First great memory?
I scored my first goal professionally in 1991; the president of the cannes football club gifted me with a car. In my first internatinal game (playing for France against the Czech Republic) in 1994, I scored two goals in 17 minutes, won GOLDEN BALL-European MUP award for leading France to victory.
•Professional points?
FIFA player of the year in 1998, 2000, 2003, 2006. I had become football's most expensive player in 2001 when Real Madrid acquired me for £46 million (roughly $63 million)
•A bit about your personal life?
I'm known to be modest, quiet and self admittedly shy. I am married to a French woman of Spanish descent, Veronique, who is a former model and together we have four sons, Enzo, Theo, Lucas and Elyas.
•Zinetines retirement?
After being sidelined with several injuries, he announced that he would retire after 2006 World Cup games in Germany. Captained the French team in World Cup 2006 games; they lost to Italy. Head butted opponent Marco Materarzi after a brief alteraction in the hundreth minute of the World Cup final game. Zidane was red carded banished from the field. Still won 2006 FIFA GOLDEN BALL. Is featured as a lego minifigure, included in some of the souer play sets.
As announced on 25 April 2006, Zidane retired from football after the 2006 World Cup final on July 2006.
