Aping of western culture by the young generation
Life in big cities is changing at a fast
pace. The western culture and modernization has so
much influenced the young generation that it can easily be reflected in the attitudes of
people. The glamour of big cities attracts the younger generation to cinema halls,
restaurants, discotheques. Bunking classes and truancy are common features of schools
and colleges these days. The youngsters are forgetting their ethical values in the race of
aping the western culture so much so that the maxims like ‘simple living high thinking
seems outdated today.’ Today the youngsters are adopting even unfair means to fulfill
their temptation for fancy things. The gap between the young and the old is widening
gradually as the youth are developing a rebellions attitude towards everything. They are
more aggressive than ever before. They are exposed to too much violence and sex
through cinema, television or internet.
But where will all these things lead the younger generation to? I think the education
provided to them should be value-based with a view to inculcating self discipline in them.
Faith should be restored in our Indian culture by organizing programmes and
highlighting the cultural heritage of India. The young minds should be canalized in such a
way that the end products should be promising as well as challenging.
