People have used animal for
experiments, religious sacrifice
and an expendable commodity since the days of Adam and
Eve. It''s believed
animals are less valuable than humans. Because of that view, it is perfectly
acceptable to most people to use animals as they see fit.
It wasn''t that long ago where it was believed that certain
groups of people were also less than human and was used for
experiments,
religious sacrifice and was bought-sold and deposed of as expendable commodity.
Animals should have the same rights as people. What has been viewed as in-human
for people should now be viewed as in-human for animals. The government would
not allow a cosmetic companies, universities, medical schools, pharmaceutical
companies, farms, defense-research establishments, and commercial facilities to
pour bleach in a baby''s eye to see what reaction he/she world have to that
bleach? Of course not, because it would be viewed as abuse. But when the
government, allows cosmetic companies, universities, medical schools,
pharmaceutical companies, farms, defense-research establishments, and
commercial facilities to
Experiment on animals it is also allow abuse and
in-human treatment of animals.
When cosmetic companies are allowed to drop acetone into a
dog''s eye to see what the reaction would be its allowing that company to treat
animals as a substandard life. If an
animal is cut, he will bleed and yell, in pain? Of course they do, the same way
any person would. It is estimated that 50 to 100 million animals are used for
testing every year. These animals either die in the process of the experiment
or are euthanized once the experiment is done.
Researchers justify using animals by saying it''s an
necessary evil, that thousands of lives have been saved by this cruelty, that
experimenting on animals has resulted in the development of vaccines and organ transplants. Most experiments are
unregulated by law and don''t supply any yearly statistics. Experiments in the
United States are mainly done, in universities, medical schools, pharmaceutical
companies, farms, defense-research establishments, and commercial facilities.
Animals are breded in laboratories for sole purpose of research, while other
animals are caught in the wild or supplied by pounds. The topic is
controversial.
Opponents argue that animal testing is unnecessary, and of
poor scientific practice. Never reliable of predictive of human metabolic and
physiological specificities, poorly regulated, that the costs outweigh the
alleged benefits, or that animals have an intrinsic right not to be used for
experimentation. While on the other hand the leading research companies in
America argue that supporting animal research, writes, "Animal research
has played a vital role in virtually every major medical advance of the last
century." Many major developments that led to Nobel Prizes involved
research on vertebrates, including the development of penicillin , organ
transplant, and work on poliomyelitis that led to a vaccine.
Then it can also be argued that, if these experiments are
for the greater good, and that the use of primates will benefit from these
researches "Humans". Why experiment on animals? There are plenty of
humans that would volunteer to help with research and then, there is also the
homeless, the sick and the dying, that would have nothing to gain by being
experimented on accept death, the same way the animals that are used for
experiments having nothing to gain but death. The government would never allow
research to be done on the homeless, the sick or the dying and they shouldn''t
allow the experiment of or animals.
