I walked down the alley,
jostling with the crowd of office-goers. Life around me seemed like a
fast-paced Brownian
movement of people. People were rushing around in their infinite
quest for bettering their
lives, people leading their everyday life, people
just hanging out watching the crowd. Everybody’s lives running parallel never
converging, like endless stretches of train tracks.
My
high-heeled shoes clicking on the sidewalk was drowned out by the everyday
noises. The screeching alarms of motor vehicle mingling with the ambulance
wails. The cabs were hurtling down the one-way avenues trying to reach their
destinations faster than the ambulances. Well-dressed business people and
nattily dressed, in-vogue girls danced around daintily avoiding being stepped
on, in the crowd. Homeless people sat around reclining on the sidewalk benches
looking dispassionately at the milling crowd. Life for them (moi included) was
anything but a fast track.
How much does your life
seem like a whirlwind? Do you seem to go through life without much control over
your daily activities? It''s easy to get caught in this trap in our fast-paced
society. We find our lives becoming so imbalanced and fast-paced that we
operate on auto pilot; doing the same things day after day without much
thought. If you''re unhappy with the way your life seems to be going, one thing
is certain - it won''t
change unless you
change first.
If you talk to those who are living balanced and fulfilled lives, you''ll find
that they don''t sit around waiting for the world around them to change so that
they can be happy; they make
their lives better by changing
what they''re doing. What a concept! Sometimes, we seem to forget
that we are
responsible for ourselves, not someone else. If you wait for others to make you
happy, you''ll be waiting a long time...
So today, start thinking about what you''re doing and why. Think about what is
causing you stress and anxiety and how you can change it. Think about what
brings you joy in life and make a plan to do it more. You can live a happier
life, but you have to "craft," discard those unnecessary clutter in
your closet and star anew.
