Khurri Sand Dunes
Distance : 40 kms from Jaisalmer
Khurri is a desert village with its
circular huts made up of a mixture of clay and cow dung presenting a very pretty sight. They are eminently practical and can withstand temperatures upto 50 degrees centigrade and desert winds of over 130km per hour. The folk designs with which the huts are decorated are exquisite, the most striking of which are the mandana patterns. Drawn with white lime paste or red earth, the walls are usually decorated with animal figures while the floors generally have geometric designs.
There is a saying in the villages of Jaisalmer that "it does not matter if your son remains unmarried but your courtyard should never remain unadorned." The chief attraction of the place are the sand dunes about a kilometre away, not as magnificent as the Sam Sand dunes but worth visiting nevertheless.
