Calling for Real Change in the Philippine Society

Article Summary   by:amdi     Original Author: jose aranas

We just witness Senator Trillanes failed coup attempt last November 29, 2007 calling for change in our present political system. This is not new anymore for last March 28 2007,
we witnessed on TV the unfolding of a hostage drama in downtown Manila. I know that most
of us do not agree with the means used by Senator Trillanes and Mr. Ducat in fighting for their causes
but for sure most of us share his concern over the future of Filipino children
and the transformation of our rotten political system. My
staffs are doing field work in the Northern Luzon region
visiting families of visually impaired children. Oftentimes, they told me that they barely followed news
because they were busy visiting the families of blind children encouraging
these families to support their children to go to school. The situation of
these families calls for help just like most of the poor
children for they are just left behind in their houses because of different reasons such
as shame, apathy, or even ignorance of parents in handling their blind
children-a challenge which NLAB (Northern Luzon Association for the Blind) cannot do alone without the help of the
different sectors in society starting in the family, the Church and more
importantly our beloved government. Seldom do I hear in the political campaign
the upholding of the rights of disabled.
Support for this cause, I think, will be a good guideline in choosing
our candidates for the coming elections. But more so I appeal to our good
politicians to support institutions such as NLAB not for politicking or to gain
“pogi” points but because of our respect for the rights of children, the
importance of the dignity of human persons and in the belief that we are all
brothers and sisters in God the Father. Our campaign is for an inclusive
society believing that when we help others we help ourselves and society. Just
as we push for educational and social reforms that will benefit disabled
persons, society is benefited as well just like Educational For All which is a
need not only of the disabled but of every children of this country or better
sidewalks for the blind to pass smoothly which is very beneficial not only for
the blind but for all passing in the busy sidewalks of the cities. You may visit www.nlabschool4blind.org for more news of this kind.
