Once upon a time, in a very far village called
island in imo-state , there
lived a very rich man called peter. He had many
wives, houses, farms, land and many servant one of whom servant is smith. Smith
was peter servant and a very honest one. He was so much loved by peter, but was
so despised by the other servant because he refused to be a partaker in their
evil act of steeling. Peter harvested a lot of product and sold it. The money
from is sale he kept somewhere secret so as to use it as some thing important.
But unfortunately, one of his servant saw him hiding the money and conspired
with the other servant to steel the money. They how ever didn’t inform smith
because the trust they had in him was no no longer there. The other servant of
peter set aside a day for their proposed operation. When the day finally came, peter left home as
usual to attend to his various businesses and that was when the servant struck.
They went into peter room, tied up his wives and children and then started
ransacking the whole house. Unknown to them, smith overheard them planning and
went ahead of them to hide the money in is room. He also telephoned the
police and informed them of the incident. The other servant continued their
search for
the money unaware of the danger lucking behind them. After their fruitless
search, they started blaming one another and also accusing one another of
taking the money. This later degenerated to a heated argument and as a result
of this, they didn’t hear the blaring sirens of police cars and the running
feet of police men into the compound. All this while, Immediately he heard the
blaring siren , he summoned courage and tip-toe out of his room down stairs
with the money and reported himself to the police. To
cut the story short, the police surrounded the building and apprehended the
other servant on the charges of steeling and kidnapping. When peter later came
back and was told the story, he gave smith large sum of the money. This story,
illustrates the saying,` Honesty is the best policy.’
