The origin of AIDS has generated a lot of controversies. Infact, the global spread of AIDS has triggered dangerous epidemic blame and racial prejudice. This is because the origin of AIDS gas been
blamed on African students by Britain; the USA has blamed Haitians, Europeans blamed Africans, Japan has blamed foreigners, the French have blamed the Arabs, while have blame the blacks, the self righteous one have blamed the sinners. All these allegations have not in any way helped the issued problem of AIDS as a threat to mankind. Thus, it is not important to find the exact Origin AIDS. The most important thing is join hand together and fight AIDS seriously.
Historically, it is pertinent to recall that HIV infection and AIDS were first reported in June 1981 in New York and Los Angels, United state of America but infection is now know to have started as far back as 1969 and possibly twenty years before the first report in 1981. HIV was first isolated in pains, France in 1983. AIDS was first reported in Africa in 1982 in Uganda . AIDS by its nature has crossed all known natural and artificial borders such as racial, social, potrtical, national, economic, academic, age and gender to infect black, while, poor and rich all over the world (discovering of HIV/AIDS).
AIDS as a type of
sickness among human beings is not
discovered till recently. It was not known as AIDS when it was first found out. As a sickness, it was discovered by two different scientists at two different places but almost at the same time. While Dr Luc. Montaingner of Pasteur institute of Health in France discovered AIDS in France in early 1970s. Dr Robert Gallo of national of institute of health in United States of America also discovered AIDS in early 1970s as well but this time, in America. None of the two
scientist gave the disease the name AIDS. They gave it different names; Dr. Luc montaigner initially called it (LAV) which means Lymphdenopathy associated virus, while Dr. Gallo called it (HTLV), which means human T-cell lymphotropic virus. There are other type of related sickness referred to as HYLV1 HTLV2. There are also related viruses that does not cause other viral disease in man. So at initial stage LAV and HYLV were different names refening to the same disease.
In the early stage of discovering of AIDS both scientists Montaigner and Gallo who identified the virus that causes AIDS as LAV and HTLV3 had a common name for the disease. It was referred to in this early stage as (Grids) meaning Gay related immune deficiency
syndrome. It was also colloquially referred to as "Gay plague". It was given the name "Gay Plague" and (Grids) because at this initial stage those who were suffering it in France and America were the homosexualist and Bestialist. Homosexualist are those people who have sexual relationship not with opposite sex but with people of the same sex.
According to J.J.C Akunne (2005: 61) as time went on Gay disease was on increase. The virus LAV and HTLV (HIV) were being discovered in people outside the gay people. Many scientists took up the challenge. It was Dr. Michael Gottlieh of the university of Catiforna, LOS Angels U.S.A. an immunologist who after studying the virus and the disease it causes, named the virus Human immune deficiency virus (HIV), while the name AIDS meaning acquired immune deficiency syndrome was coined by the consortium of scientist from New York, SAN Francisco and Los Angels on June 1981. From hence such terms like LAV, HTLV, Grids gave way to HIV and AIDS while HIV is a virus, AIDS is a disease. This disease is found in this virus called HIV and so when the virus found a way mostly through sexual intercourse into somebody and when it starts to multiply, itself into many more HIV by killing and eating up the bodies cell that protects the human body, (immunity cells) the person become sick and this sickness is acquired through sexual promiscuty etc and the disease is acquired immune deficiency syndrome. It is nothing but that one''s immune cells are no mare sufficient or enough for your body and for the life in you to continue. So you start to die gradually, until you finally die.
