Every
day that we live has to be a
happening day. Great things never come our way. We have to make them happen. The first step is to stay confident. The secret to becoming confident is preparation. By practicing we come to a point of competence. We find ourselves accomplishing our goals gracefully and confidently. It is then that we do things that we never dreamt we could do. We discover powers we never knew existed. Negative feelings create roadblocks in our path of progress, because of which we stumble down at times. We achieve to the degree that we overcome the negative. Achievers are willing to pay the price of achievement. They sacrifice, struggle, work on, perhaps alone, weary, and discouraged, and yet at each step overcome the negative .
Our attitude is not determined by circumstances, but by how we respond to circumstances. Our minds determine our attitude. We can respond positively or negatively. It’s how we react to
events, not the events themselves that determines our attitude. We gain the advantage in any situation through one medium: time. We gain the advantage by
doing things before they need to be done---positioning ourselves ahead of time in the best place. Those who think ahead to the approaching action will have the advantage. They will always emerge out as the winners. We can know what people are thinking by looking at what they do. Actions mirror thoughts. And by taking a good look at where we are and what we are doing, we can understand what we are thinking. The thoughts we have chosen have brought us where we are today.
We are in
control to the degree that we make the decisions. To affect the outcome of anything, we must control the action at the point of decision-making. If we let others make decisions for us, we have no control. When we control the decisions, we control the actions. We gain what we want through the help and support of others. To be
agreeable, to be liked, to cooperate---this contributes immeasurably to our
success. When we coordinate our efforts with the efforts of others, we speed the way to our goals. Cooperation builds success. But we also get to embrace conflicts and e very conflict is a set of opposing ideas. All of us have had the feeling: knowing what we should do on the one hand, and doing what we feel like doing on the other. By understanding these two opposing forces warring within us, we come to knowledge of the truth: we no longer remain slaves. A clear understanding will make us masters.
Now comes the question, how can we actually progress? Progress begins a step at a time. There is no sudden leap to greatness. Our success lies in doing day by day. The upward reach comes from working carefully and well. Good work done little by little becomes a great work. The house of success is built brick by brick.
Events surround us. And Life is a series of events. Events tend to repeat themselves. The tide of opportunity comes to us all. And when we are prepared for opportunity, our chance is sure to come. Success doesn’t depend upon being at the right place at the right time---it depends upon being ready. Successful people are not afraid to fail. They accept their failures and continue on, knowing that
failure is a natural consequence of trying. They go from failure to failure, until at last success is theirs. The law of failure is one of the most powerful of all success laws: we fail only when we can’t accept failure. To feel in our innermost being that we will achieve what we set out to do---this opens the way for miracles. Expecting something to happen energizes our goal and gives it momentum. We often find that life responds to our outlook. What we expect to happen, happens. The dreams we choose to believe in come to be.
We all need faith. Faith is based upon something---the evidence of things not seen. To have faith, we must have evidence. Faith is not blind. We can know the invisible by seeing the visible. We can see the trees bend and know there is wind. We can see the moon reflect light and know the sun is shining. We can see man, and know there is something beyond. The force of habit can be swift to push us to failure or to success. The more we do something, the more likely we are to do it again. Habit is like a cable---coiled, it binds us as its slave; stretched like a bridge, it enables us to walk across the deepest valley to freedom. Seeing all the possibilities, seeing all that can be done, and how it can be done, marks the power of imagination. Our imagination is our own personal laboratory. Here we can recreate events, map out plans, and visualize overcoming obstacles. Imagination shows us how to turn possibility into reality. Before us lie two paths---honesty and dishonesty. The shortsighted embark on the dishonest path; the wise on the honest. For the wise know the truth: in helping others we help ourselves; and in hurting others we hurt ourselves. Character overshadows money, and trust rises above fame. Honesty is still the best policy.
