two years ago i was drinking tea or water non stop then one night i just collapsed , my partner rang the duty doctor he came within five minutes as the surgery was just round the corner ...he said ` you have undersecretion of thyroid` and he prescribed Thyroxine 25 mg to be daily ... my thirst did not abate ..after three month same thing happened i collapsed but this time a lady doctot came and did a test and said ` who put you on these tablets ` dr khurana` i replied ,oh that is wrong u have to go to hospital immediately you are a matured didbetic` i sobbed my heart out call ed for an ambulance and was in hospital. the doctor came and sat with me and explained that wrong diagnosis has been made but we are going to correct all that ...i am going to put you on an insulin pump to stabilise you and you need to stay here more than seven days...he put an insulin pump on my hand then at night he came over and took it out .the next morning a nurse came and taught me how to inject mysel f with unsulin . ihad to have 20 units at eight oclock and eighteen units at six in the evening...i had to cut down on all sugary things.
..me who used to go mad on chocolates. that was the beginning of my life with diabetes... prick my fingers twice a day to monitor my sugar level and inject myself with insulin twice a day... what a life idi not choose that quality of life... there are many types of diabetes one you can just control with diets,and the other with taking diabenes... but as mine was discovered late i had to have insulin... i started living with it is not easy but life has to on ... one day my partner who works in a mental hospital came from work and i asked what type of day you had ` do talk about it it was very stressful we had to do constraint and restraint with that patient because all he wanted to do was to smash all the windows and we had to restrained him...`you do not know what stress is darling if you had to prick your finger twice a day and inject yourself twice a day then you will know what stress is all about....
