An under trial
prisoner at the Nashik Central Jail has confessed to the crime he committed after reading books on the Mahatma.
Gole, presently lodged at Nasik Jail, wrote to the Mumbai-based Sarvodaya Mandal that after reading the
autobiography of Gandhi – ''My Experiments with Truth'', says he is determined to follow Gandhi''s path of truth and non-
violence in his life.
In fact, the Bombay Sarvodaya Mandal and Gandhi Book Centre is planning to hold a news conference on Monday to introduce Laxman Gole at the Nashik jail with the help of jail authorities. It will be addressed by Dr Rajan Welukar, Vice-Chancellor of Yashwantrao Chavan Open University, Nasik.
"He will himself speak out, you can hear his story," says TRK Somaiya of Gandhi Sarvodaya Mandal, which propogrates the philosophy of Gandhiji.
He also sent a confession note to Judge of Vikhroli Court and requested him to end court proceedings.
He said that Gandhi''s autobiography is an inspiration not only great leader like Nelson Mandela and other common people but also prisoners.
"We are sure that interview of this prisoner will inspire people all over the world to read the autobiography and other books on Gandhi, in the present context of increasing violence, terrorism & crime," says TRK Somaiya of Gandhi Sarvodaya Manda. "We are confident that many people will follow the path of truth and non-violence and strive to sustain morality and peaceful conflict resolution which is the need of the hour.
