What is becoming of us?

Article Summary   by:LKY     Original Author: LKY
ª

It happened on the 20th of August 2007. A young girl, Nurin, went missing after a trip to the night market alone. A few weeks later, a body was found stuffed in a gym bag. Her stomach was ruptured and intestine penetrated with vegetables-vegetables forced up her private parts.
This is a personal comment on the tragic death of Nurin. Let this be a cry for us 'humans' to open our eyes and be kinder to our own kind.

He was a sadist. He is a sadist. It was all harmonic to him, even arousing to him-the screams as he forced foreign objects up her private parts, the blood as her abdomen wall ruptured and her intestines penetrated and the pain…the excruciating pain and the agony as she finally succumbed to an infection.

This happened to a girl. A young child. A eight-year-old girl to be exact.

How can any human be so inhuman - inhumane? It is as if life has no value anymore or worse, not valued at all.

Killing, no, torturing and brutal murder was nothing to him. Like snapping a twig. In fact, he enjoyed the power and the dominance he possessed as his victim looked defenselessly at him, completely at his mercy.

This sex scandal is outrageous… totally out of the norm of our society. It is worse than the animals. Even a tiger, as ferocious and menacing as it looks, kills for a reason. A good reason: to fill the bellies of her hungry cubs.

But him? He has no right at all to take the life out of another’s body.

Yet this is only the tip of the iceberg. Reality is much worse and far more gruesome than what we can imagine or ever comprehend.

Nurin’s murder is only one of the many sufferings children from around the globe are enduring. Many children as young as four are forced to labour and work ceaselessly in exchange for a meagre amount of food while hundreds of thousand more are forced into slavery and even child pornography.

In Africa recently, a nine-month-old baby was raped by nine men because there was a myth going on that having sex with a virgin will cure AIDS and the younger the virgin is, the more potent is the cure. This has lead to an epidemic of rapes by infected males with the correspondent infection of many young and innocent kids. And needless to say, many have died in these cruel and heartless rapes.

One could not help but wonder what the world is coming to today. Have the basic moralities and ethics of humanity drowned in the rise of our so-called ‘civilization’? Or are we so up-to-our-eyes in life that we forget how to live-live like how a human being should?

One thing is for sure though. The world is no longer a safe and happy place.

Save yourself.
