Akshardham Temple The wonderful Akshardham temple of Delhi is built on the banks of the serene
River Yamuna and lies over a sprawling 100 acres of lush manicured lawns adorned with water fountains and carved pavilions. This grand place of worship took more than 2 years for construction and costed around Rs.2 billion, funded by millions of Bochasanvasi Aksharpurushottam. This temple was inaugurated on November 7, 2005 but opened for general public on 8th November 2005.
The main monument at the Akshardham temple in Delhi is about 141-foot high and houses a lovely statue of Lord Swaminarayan. Besides the Swaminarayan temple the
complex consists of the main monument, 234 ornate pillars, exhibition halls, an IMAX theatre, many statues and arches and an elaborate musical fountain, surrounded by a garden. The temple depicts the Hindu mythology and Indian
culture. The architectural style is an imitation of the Akshardham temple in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, India.
It also got a restaurant modeled on the Ajanta and Ellora caves and an Ayurvedic bazaar.
Recently Delhi’s Akshardham temple has recorded in the genies book of world records. The Temple builds over an area of 100 acres is declared world’s biggest Hindu temple premise. In the month of December, 2007 one of the senior officers of genies world records limited visited India. The officer presented two certificates to the chief Swami Maharaj of Swami Narayan Sansthan.
It is advisable for the visitors to not to take leather accessories suck as belts, bags, shoes etc, and electronic devices such as cell phones, cameras as it is not allowed to take that inside. Only small female purses or male wallets are allowed. Entry to the complex is free. But for exhibitions and light and sound show inside the complex, one has to take tickets.
