Lakshmi Narayan (or Niwas) Mittal is a billionaire
steel industrialist, born in 1950, in Rajasthan, India.
He moved to Britain in 1995. He lives in London and is the richest man in the UK, with a net worth of $23.5 billion (2006).
He is chairman and CEO of the Mittal Steel
Company NV, which is the
world's largest producer of steel, with facilities in fourteen countries and employing more than 150,000 people.
In 2005 it was announced that he had donated ¢2 million to Britain's Labour Party.
In March 2006, he was reported to be the fifth wealthiest person in the world by Forbes Magazine.
The Mittal
family owns 88% of Mittal Steel, the world's largest steel company.
Mittal has two children. His only daughter, Vanisha Mittal, joined her father’s company after completing a master’s degree at the School of Oriental & African Studies in London.
