Do you believe that anywhere in the world today someone could be put to death for
witchcraft?
Well, according to the Australian newspaper, the HeraldSun, the Saudi Arabia religious police are planning to
behead a woman who has been accused of being a witch.
The Human Rights Group is attempting to get Saudi Arabia''''s king to stop this travesty of
justice.
The woman, whose name is fawza Falih, was questioned and placed under arrest two years ago in Quraiyat. At that time, she was given the death
sentence. The sentence was based on a coerced
confession and statements from her so-called "victims," who
claimed to have been bewitched.
For instance, one man claimed that
ms. Falih cast a spell on him and he became impotent.
Ms. Falih, who is illiterate, said in court that her confession was not made freely and she couldn''''t read the document she signed.
The death sentence has been lifted once, but was handed out again soon after, in "the public interest."
Withcraft is still punishable as a "crime against Islam" in Saudi Arabia.
