LET THE MUSIC PLAY One morning, the Regional Director of Bancomer Bank in Mexico found a telex on his desk.
Goal for the next 12 months; 50% increase in savings accounts increase number of customers
That was the beginning of a long period of pressure,
tension and irritability for him. He soon could not sleep, lost appetite and became sick. His hands lost pigmentation and turned terribly white. He was stressed. He was physically and psychologically out of control.
After several attempts with different treatments, he met Fernando Salazar Baliol, the music therapist. Baliol told him that if he did music therapy he would feel much better. So, the Bank Director started an intensive therapy with music. After three months of treatment, the white spots in his hands started to disappear, the tension was relieved and the Director could go back to work and cape with his task.
The explanation is that music therapy
reduces external pressure in the individual. Music creates an environment free of tension which allows the individual to use his ar her own intuition and creativity to solve problems.
The relax created by music reduces stress. The brain starts to work at a frequency of 7 to 15 cycles per second - the Alpha stage. At this stage, the brain works at a level below the 21 cycles per second which is the limit of human physical and psychological balance.
"Once in Alpha, the muscles relax and break the pain tension/pain cycle," explains Baliol. "The effects of music therapy are not totally known. In Argentina, for example, the goats of the Capricorn Company increased productivity by 60% after a three-month treatment with music therapy with Bach''''s The Twenty-ninth Concert and Vivaldi''''s The Four Seasons. So, let the music play," he concludes.
