I was on top of one of my palms tree yesterday, tapping the tree and collecting the wine for the morning when I
saw three solders at the foot of the tree. they made sign at me so I thought that they want my palm wine on reaching down I gave them the wine in the calabash they said they have come to conscript me into the army I asked politely if they wanted me or somebody else and they said they have come for me. Thinking my enemies had sent them, but they said I wasting their time as they had to catch more men before they left that day only a foolish man willingly disobey armed soldiers, I told them I have something to say. Say it one of them angrily sir what I want to say is simple I said (my first son) who should have succeeded me when I died joined the army voluntarily and with my full backing the was brilliant boy, always first in his class, he was inspired to become a medical doctor, he was in this last year at school when the war begin, he was killed the two children who came after him where girls but my last son john is still young if he were old enough, I would have asked him to join the army not minding the consequences, for no person has live in him, will say that he no part in this war. If life has reaching the stage when a man of my age is given riffle by force and sent to war front then it has reaching when the world we cry out and end the war that is what I have to say to my WORLD.
